Lucy's first memory is a nightmare. She dreamed that she was plummeting through the darkness. Below her, the searing light approached with sickening speed until a pair of massive hands reached out, blotting out the light, cushioning her fall. The gentle fingers closed around her body like a warm mantle. Even as a dreaming child, Lucy fought, pushing and squeezing her way between the soft fingers that embraced her. She dove head first into the bright lights below.
